How to Reach Observatory Hill & Local Taxi Drop Details

Navigating the Pedestrian Zones

Observatory Hill is located directly above Chowrasta (Darjeeling Mall). Because the entire Mall Road and Chowrasta area is a strict "No-Vehicle Zone", no taxi or private car can drive you directly to the base of the hill, let alone up the walking path.

To visit Observatory Hill, your Darjeeling local taxi must drop you off at one of the designated taxi stands located just below the pedestrian area, typically the Club Side Taxi Stand or near the Bhanu Bhawan. From the drop-off point, you will walk about 5 to 10 minutes to reach Chowrasta. From Chowrasta, the narrow, paved pedestrian path leading up to Observatory Hill and the Mahakal Temple begins. The uphill walk takes another 10 to 15 minutes.
