Best Time to Visit Happy Valley Tea Estate

To see the actual tea manufacturing process, you must visit during the active plucking seasons. The factory does not process tea during the winter months.

Spring to Summer (March to May) - First & Second Flush

This is the absolute best time to visit. The famous "First Flush" (spring harvest) and "Second Flush" (summer harvest) are actively being plucked. The factory is fully operational, buzzing with activity, and you can smell the fresh tea processing from miles away.

Autumn (October to November) - Autumn Flush

The post-monsoon "Autumn Flush" is underway. The factory is active, and the weather is crisp and clear, making it a fantastic time for both factory tours and scenic photography among the tea bushes.

Winter (December to February) - Dormant Season

Tea plucking completely stops during the freezing winter months. As a result, the factory is closed for processing. While you can still walk through the gardens and buy tea from the boutique, you will not be able to see the machines running.

Monsoon (June to September) - Wet & Muddy

While the monsoon flush is plucked, the garden paths become extremely muddy and slippery. Factory operations may be sporadic. It is very beautiful and green, but walking outside requires caution.

Navigating the Steep Estate Roads

Happy Valley Tea Estate is located roughly 3 kilometers away from Darjeeling’s Chowrasta (Mall Road) area. To reach the factory, you have to turn off the main Lebong Cart Road and travel down a very steep, narrow, and winding private estate road.
