Quick Package Summary

Our North Sikkim Expedition Package is built for travelers seeking the ultimate Himalayan thrill. North Sikkim is a restricted, high-altitude zone requiring highly specialized logistics. You cannot use standard sedans or hatchbacks here. This "Transport-Only" package guarantees a rugged, high-clearance SUV (like an Innova or Xylo) driven by an expert native chauffeur who intimately understands the treacherous, steep terrain of North Sikkim.

The 4 Nights 5 Days journey covers your Bagdogra/NJP pickup to Gangtok, the long ascent to the remote village of Lachen, the breathtaking drive to Gurudongmar Lake (situated at 17,800 feet), and the descent into the vibrant Yumthang Valley via Lachung. Most importantly, our ground team manages the highly bureaucratic Protected Area Permit (PAP) processing on your behalf, so you don't waste your vacation standing in government queues.

Day-to-Day Itinerary

A highly structured route designed to manage altitude acclimatization safely.

Day 01

Arrival at NJP/Bagdogra & Transfer to Gangtok

Welcome to the Himalayas! Upon your arrival at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or New Jalpaiguri (NJP), your dedicated driver will receive you and begin the 4 to 5-hour journey into Sikkim. The drive follows the stunning Teesta River along NH10.

Upon reaching the capital city of Gangtok, check into your self-booked hotel. Spend the evening acclimatizing to the altitude. We highly recommend visiting the pedestrian-only MG Marg for dinner and shopping. Meanwhile, our ground team will finalize the processing of your North Sikkim permits using the documents you provided.

Transit: ~5 Hours / 120 KM
Day 02

Gangtok to Lachen (Altitude: 9,000 ft)

After an early breakfast, check out from your Gangtok hotel. The grueling but beautiful 6-hour journey to North Sikkim begins. The route passes through dense forests, deep valleys, and numerous waterfalls, including the famous Seven Sisters Waterfall and Naga Waterfall.

You will arrive in the remote village of Lachen by late afternoon. The temperature here drops significantly. Check into your hotel, rest, and prepare your body for the extreme high altitude journey the next morning. Ensure you drink plenty of water to aid acclimatization.

Transit: ~6 Hours / 120 KM (Steep Incline)
Day 03

Gurudongmar Lake Excursion & Transfer to Lachung

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trip. You will wake up at 3:30 AM and drive toward the Tibetan Plateau. The destination is the sacred Gurudongmar Lake, situated at a breathtaking 17,800 feet. The lake remains partially frozen even in summer. Due to the extreme altitude and thin air, tourists are advised not to spend more than 30 minutes at the lake to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

After returning to Lachen for lunch and checking out, your driver will navigate across the valley to the slightly lower and much more scenic village of Lachung (Altitude: 8,600 ft). Check into your hotel in Lachung for the night.

Extreme Altitude: 17,800 ft (Gurudongmar)
Day 04

Yumthang Valley Excursion & Return to Gangtok

After breakfast in Lachung, you will drive to the Yumthang Valley (also known as the Valley of Flowers), situated at 11,800 feet. During spring, this valley is covered in vibrant rhododendrons, while in winter, it is a snow-covered wonderland. The valley is surrounded by massive, snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

Optional: If weather permits and roads are open, you can opt to visit Zero Point (Yumesamdong) further up for an additional fee paid directly to the driver. After exploring Yumthang, you will return to Lachung for lunch before embarking on the long, 6-hour drive back to Gangtok. Check into your Gangtok hotel for the night.

Highlights: Yumthang Valley, Hot Springs
Day 05

Departure: Gangtok to NJP/Bagdogra Drop

After breakfast and checking out of your Gangtok hotel, your dedicated SUV will be ready to begin the descent back to the plains of West Bengal. We ensure a punctual and safe drop-off at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station, concluding your epic North Sikkim expedition.

Transit: ~4.5 Hours / 120 KM

Comprehensive Guide: Booking Your North Sikkim Expedition

Understanding the Logistics of the North Sikkim Tour Package (4N/5D)

The north sikkim tour package 4n 5d is not your standard hill station holiday; it is a high-altitude expedition requiring careful logistical planning. North Sikkim is a highly restricted border area. To visit the legendary gurudongmar lake or the beautiful yumthang valley, Indian tourists must acquire a Protected Area Permit (PAP). By booking this specific "Transport-Only" lachen lachung tour package, Siliguri Cab Rental handles all the bureaucratic permit processing in Gangtok on your behalf, ensuring you are not stuck waiting in government offices.

Why You Must Book a Heavy-Duty SUV

When looking for a bagdogra to gangtok taxi and onward to North Sikkim, vehicle selection is critical. The roads from Gangtok to Lachen (approx 120km) and further to Gurudongmar Lake (at 17,800 feet) are incredibly steep, rocky, and often subjected to harsh weather. Hatchbacks and standard sedans are legally and physically incapable of making this journey. Therefore, when you book a siliguri to north sikkim cab with us, we exclusively deploy heavy, high-clearance SUVs such as the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, or Mahindra Scorpio to ensure your safety.

Acclimatization and Safety Precautions

Altitude sickness is a real concern on the gurudongmar lake tour. This itinerary is structured so that you spend your first night in Gangtok (5,400 ft) and your second night in Lachen (9,000 ft) before attempting to reach the lake (17,800 ft) on the morning of Day 3. Our expert mountain chauffeurs monitor your well-being and are trained to navigate the rugged terrain safely. It is highly recommended to stay hydrated and consult your doctor before undertaking this extreme adventure.

Package FAQ

Common questions about this extreme high-altitude 4N/5D itinerary.

Are hotels in Lachen and Lachung included in this fare?

No. This is strictly a "Transport-Only" package designed to give you flexibility. The fare covers your private heavy SUV, all fuel, driver allowances, and the processing fees for your Protected Area Permits (PAP). You must book your own hotels, though we highly recommend coordinating with us as hotel availability in North Sikkim can be very limited.

What documents do I need for the North Sikkim Permit?

Indian citizens require a valid, original Voter ID card or Passport, along with multiple passport-size photographs. Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and Driving Licenses are strictly NOT accepted for issuing Protected Area Permits (PAP).

Is the trip to Zero Point (Yumesamdong) included?

No, transit to Zero Point from Yumthang Valley is not included in the base package fare. Because the road to Zero Point is frequently blocked by heavy snow, it is considered an optional extension. If the road is clear and you wish to proceed, you will need to pay an additional spot fee (usually around ₹3,000 to ₹3,500) directly to the driver.
