Quick Package Summary

Our Old Silk Route Expedition is built for travelers seeking an offbeat, deeply historical Himalayan adventure. Once part of the ancient trade route connecting Lhasa (Tibet) to India, this circuit in East Sikkim offers some of the most breathtaking and rugged terrain in the region. Because this is a highly restricted military zone, standard vehicles are not allowed. This "Transport-Only" package guarantees a robust, high-clearance SUV (Innova, Xylo, or Scorpio) driven by an expert native chauffeur.

The 5 Nights 6 Days journey covers your Bagdogra/NJP pickup to the lower altitudes of Aritar/Sillery Gaon, the dramatic ascent through the Rongli permit checkpost into Zuluk, the majestic drive traversing the 96 hairpin bends of Thambi View Point, the high-altitude Nathang Valley, and finally crossing Kupup Lake and Baba Mandir to reach Gangtok. Our ground team manages the highly bureaucratic Protected Area Permit (PAP) processing on your behalf, so you enjoy the stunning views without stress.

Day 02

Aritar to Zuluk (Via Rongli Permit Checkpost)

After breakfast, the true Silk Route journey begins. Your driver will take you to the Rongli Checkpost, where all necessary Protected Area Permits (PAP) will be physically processed using your documents.

Once cleared, the drive continues uphill through Lingtam, passing the beautiful Kuekhola Falls and Padamchen, before finally arriving at the remote, high-altitude village of Zuluk (approx 9,400 ft). Check into your homestay and experience the authentic, rugged lifestyle of the locals.

Highlights: Rongli Permits, Kuekhola Falls, Zuluk
Day 03

Zuluk to Gangtok (The 96 Hairpins & Nathang Valley)

This is the most breathtaking day of the tour. Start early to navigate the famous 96 Hairpin Bends (Zuluk Loops). You will stop at the Thambi View Point (11,200 ft) for a spectacular sunrise over the entire Kanchenjunga range and the winding roads below.

The journey continues higher through the stark, beautiful landscapes of Nathang Valley (13,500 ft), often called the Ladakh of East Sikkim. You will cross the Tukla Valley, see the Old Baba Mandir, and pass by the stunning Kupup Lake (Elephant Lake). Descend towards Gangtok, passing the new Baba Mandir and Tsomgo Lake, arriving in the capital city by evening. Check into your Gangtok hotel.

Highlights: 96 Hairpins, Kupup, Tsomgo Lake
Day 04

Gangtok Local Sightseeing

After the exhaustive high-altitude journey, enjoy a relaxed morning. Following breakfast, embark on a full-day local sightseeing tour of Gangtok. Your dedicated SUV will take you to the major highlights of the city.

Comprehensive Guide: Booking Your Old Silk Route Expedition

Understanding the Logistics of the Silk Route Package (5N/6D)

The silk route sikkim tour package 5n 6d is not a standard tourist circuit; it is an offbeat expedition through ancient history. This route was once used by traders to transport goods between Lhasa (Tibet) and India. Today, it remains a highly restricted military zone requiring specific Protected Area Permits (PAP) processed at the Rongli checkpost. By booking our dedicated zuluk tour package, Siliguri Cab Rental guarantees that our drivers will handle all permit formalities, ensuring a smooth transition into the restricted zones.

Why You Must Book a Heavy-Duty SUV

When looking for a bagdogra to zuluk taxi, vehicle selection is a matter of safety, not just comfort. The ascent from Padamchen to Zuluk and further up to the nathang valley tour involves navigating the dizzying 96 hairpin bends (Zuluk Loops) up to Thambi View Point. The roads are incredibly steep and frequently covered in snow or ice. Hatchbacks and sedans are legally and physically incapable of making this journey. Therefore, when you book a siliguri to silk route cab with us, we exclusively deploy heavy, high-clearance SUVs such as the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, or Mahindra Scorpio driven by seasoned local experts.

Acclimatization and Accommodations

Unlike Gangtok, the old silk route package circuit features extremely limited infrastructure. You will be staying in basic homestays rather than luxury hotels. The altitude jumps drastically from Zuluk (9,400 ft) to Nathang Valley (13,500 ft). This itinerary is structured to aid acclimatization, but travelers must come prepared with heavy thermal clothing and basic medical supplies. If you need assistance finding verified homestays in these remote villages, our support team can guide you.

Package FAQ

Common questions about this remote high-altitude 5N/6D itinerary.

Are homestays in Zuluk and Nathang included in this fare?

No. This is strictly a "Transport-Only" package designed to give you flexibility. The fare covers your private heavy SUV, all fuel, driver allowances, and the processing fees for your Protected Area Permits (PAP) at Rongli. You must book your own homestays, though we highly recommend coordinating with us as room availability in Zuluk and Nathang is extremely limited.

What documents do I need for the Silk Route Permit?

Indian citizens require a valid, original Voter ID card or Passport, along with multiple passport-size photographs. Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and Driving Licenses are strictly NOT accepted for issuing Protected Area Permits (PAP) by the Sikkim Police.

Is the trip to Nathula Pass included in this package?

No. While the Silk Route physically connects to the road near Baba Mandir and Tsomgo Lake, entering Nathula Pass (the actual border gates) requires a separate army permit issued specifically from Gangtok. If you wish to visit Nathula Pass as an extension, an additional spot fee and separate documentation will be required.
