Spring (March to May) - The Alpine Bloom

Monsoon (July to September) - Park Closed

Trekking is strictly prohibited during this time. The Singalila National Park is officially closed. The 21 km trail becomes a muddy, dangerous, and heavily leech-infested path entirely engulfed in storm clouds.

How to Reach Phalut from NJP/Siliguri & Taxi Details

Reaching the Base (Manebhanjan)

Before you can reach Phalut, you must first arrive at Manebhanjan, the official base camp for the Sandakphu and Phalut trek. Manebhanjan is located about 90 kilometers from Siliguri, NJP Railway Station, and Bagdogra Airport. Standard tourist taxis, hatchbacks, and sedans can easily travel up to Manebhanjan via the scenic Mirik route. You can book a direct, point-to-point drop from the plains to Manebhanjan with Siliguri Cab Rental. The journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours.

Manebhanjan to Phalut

The distance from Manebhanjan to Phalut is roughly 52 kilometers. Standard commercial taxis from NJP are not permitted or capable of driving up this unpaved route inside the Singalila National Park. You must either trek (usually a 4 to 5-day journey) or hire the vintage 4x4 Land Rovers from the Manebhanjan syndicate.

Important Note: While Land Rovers can drive up to Sandakphu easily, the 21 km road from Sandakphu to Phalut is frequently impassable for vehicles due to heavy boulders, landslides, or deep snow. The vast majority of visitors choose to trek this final 21 km stretch on foot, returning via the beautiful Srikhola and Rimbick descent route, where a Siliguri Cab Rental taxi can pick you up for your return to NJP.
