Celebrate Your Finish at Rimbick

Sitting at 7,500 feet, the bustling mountain town of Rimbick marks the triumphant end of the Sandakphu and Phalut trek. Enjoy the vibrant local market and book your return NJP taxi pickup for a comfortable ride home.

Why Visit Rimbick?

Perched at an altitude of roughly 7,500 feet, Rimbick is a large, vibrant hill town in the Darjeeling district. For the thousands of adventurers who take on the Singalila Ridge, Rimbick is synonymous with victory—it serves as the major final exit point for the Sandakphu and Phalut treks. After spending days walking through the high-altitude wilderness, returning to the lively atmosphere of Rimbick feels like a massive celebration.

Trekkers usually arrive in Rimbick after descending from Sandakphu or Phalut via the beautiful river village of Srikhola (located about 7 kilometers away). Unlike the isolated trekker's huts on the ridge, Rimbick features a bustling local bazaar, comfortable hotels, a stable mobile network, and direct road connectivity to the plains. Because you are finally back on a major motorable road, a regular commercial taxi from Siliguri Cab Rental can come directly to Rimbick to pick you up and drive you comfortably back to Darjeeling town (~55 km) or NJP Railway Station (~130 km).

Highlights: What You Will Experience

Rimbick is the place to rest, eat well, and reconnect with civilization.

The Trek Finish Line

Whether you walked all the way from Phalut or just completed Sandakphu, arriving in Rimbick marks the official end of your expedition. The town is filled with fellow trekkers sharing their summit stories and celebrating their successful descent.

Rimbick Bazar

The central market is a lively hub of local culture. After days of eating basic trek food, you can explore the bazaar to enjoy fresh local cuisine, buy souvenirs, and experience the day-to-day life of a true Darjeeling mountain town.

Reconnecting

After days without electricity or cellular service inside the Singalila National Park, Rimbick offers the much-needed relief of stable mobile networks and electricity, allowing you to finally upload your Everest photos and call home.

Exit Town Checklist

What to Know for the Return

Rimbick is where you transition back to normal tourist logistics. Prepare for your ride down.

Pre-Book Your Pickup Taxi

While Rimbick has a taxi stand, finding a direct, comfortable cab to NJP at the exact time you finish your trek can be highly stressful. You must pre-book your Siliguri Cab Rental return taxi *before* you lose network in Manebhanjan.

ATM Availability

Rimbick occasionally has functioning ATMs, and some larger shops in the bazar accept UPI. However, mountain ATMs frequently run out of cash, so it is still wise to carry some backup physical currency until you reach Darjeeling or Siliguri.

The Walk from Srikhola

If you stayed the night in Srikhola, the walk to Rimbick is about 7 kilometers. It is a relatively easy, mostly flat or slightly uphill walk on a motorable road, taking about 2 to 3 hours to complete.

Long Drive Ahead

The drive from Rimbick back to NJP or Bagdogra is long (about 4.5 to 5.5 hours) via Manebhanjan and Mirik. If you have an afternoon train or flight, you must depart Rimbick very early in the morning.

Quick Facts

  • Altitude: 7,500 ft (2,286 m)
  • Distance: ~130 km to NJP
  • Drive Time: ~5 Hours to NJP
  • Stay: Hotels & Homestays
  • Cab Pickup: Rimbick to NJP (~₹4,000)

Best Time to Visit Rimbick

As the exit hub for the Singalila trek, Rimbick's peak seasons align perfectly with the trekking windows:

Spring (March to May) - Pleasant & Busy

The town is bustling with trekkers descending from the rhododendron-filled trails. The weather is cool and highly pleasant. It is a fantastic time to relax in the local bazaar, but hotel rooms book up fast.

Autumn (October to Early December) - Crisp Air

The second major trekking window. The air is sharp and visibility is high. It gets significantly colder at night compared to Spring, but it feels wonderfully warm compared to the freezing summit of Sandakphu you just left!

Monsoon (July to September) - Quiet Season

With the Singalila National Park closed to trekkers, Rimbick returns to being a quiet, sleepy agricultural town. While the roads from Darjeeling to Rimbick remain open, travel is generally avoided due to heavy rains and landslide risks.

How to Return from Rimbick to NJP/Siliguri & Taxi Details

The Importance of Pre-Booking

Rimbick is connected to Manebhanjan, Darjeeling, and Siliguri by a standard motorable road. However, unlike Darjeeling town where taxis are constantly available, finding a direct, long-distance taxi from Rimbick back to NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport at the exact moment you finish your trek can be highly stressful and excessively expensive.

Because mobile networks inside the Singalila National Park are almost non-existent, you cannot call for a cab while you are trekking. You must pre-book your return taxi *before* you leave the Manebhanjan base camp on day one.

Rimbick to NJP Taxi Fare

At Siliguri Cab Rental, we specialize in Sandakphu trek logistics. Once you provide us with your expected exit date, our driver will be waiting for you right at your hotel in Rimbick (or at the Srikhola bridge). The standard fare for a comfortable 4-seater hatchback (like WagonR or Swift) from Rimbick to NJP/Bagdogra is approximately ₹4,000.

The drive down takes about 4.5 to 5.5 hours depending on mountain traffic. We also offer larger SUVs like Innova or Xylo if you are returning with a large trekking group and heavy backpacks. Contact us via WhatsApp to secure your drop and pickup package.

Rimbick Exit FAQ

Common questions about ending your trek in this town.

Can I start the Sandakphu trek from Rimbick instead of Manebhanjan?

While technically possible, it is extremely rare and highly discouraged. The ascent from Rimbick/Srikhola up to Sandakphu is incredibly steep and taxing. It is almost exclusively used as a downhill descent route.

Do regular NJP taxis come to Rimbick?

Yes! Because Rimbick is outside the restricted National Park zone and connected by standard motorable roads, Siliguri Cab Rental can send a standard hatchback or SUV directly to your hotel here to drive you back to NJP or Darjeeling.

How far is Rimbick from Darjeeling town?

Rimbick is approximately 55 kilometers away from Darjeeling town. If you hire a direct taxi, the beautiful, winding drive through Manebhanjan takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
