Because Srikhola is tied to the Singalila trekking circuit, visiting seasons align with the broader trek, but its valley location provides a slightly different experience:

Spring (March to May) - Lush & Pleasant

The valley is incredibly lush and green during the spring. The weather is perfectly warm for relaxing by the river, and the surrounding forests are blooming. This is the busiest season, so pre-book your return cab and homestay.

Autumn (October to Early December) - Cool & Clear

While the high peaks are freezing, Srikhola remains comfortably cool. The river water is crystal clear, and the post-monsoon freshness makes the long downhill descent through the forest deeply refreshing.

Monsoon (July to September) - Caution Advised

Unlike the National Park which is fully closed, Srikhola can still be accessed by road from Darjeeling. However, the river swells dangerously, and the roads connecting to Rimbick are highly prone to severe landslides. Tourism is not recommended.

The Descent to Srikhola

Srikhola is almost exclusively visited as a descent route from the Sandakphu and Phalut peaks. Trekkers typically hike down the steep, forested trails from Sandakphu (a 16 km hike) or from Phalut (via Gorkhey) to finally arrive at the Srikhola suspension bridge. Because the trail drops massively in altitude—from nearly 12,000 feet down to 6,900 feet—it is physically demanding on the knees, but heavily shaded by beautiful oak and magnolia forests.

Srikhola to NJP/Darjeeling Taxi Return

Once you reach Srikhola, you have officially exited the restricted Singalila National Park trekking zone. This means standard commercial taxis from the plains are finally allowed to reach you!

Can I start the Sandakphu trek from Srikhola?

While technically possible to trek uphill from Srikhola to Sandakphu, it is highly discouraged. The gradient is brutally steep, and there are no Land Rovers available here to rescue you if you get tired. It is strictly used as a descent/exit route.

Do regular NJP taxis come directly to Srikhola?
